I can’t believe the day has come when someone actually said NO to Madonna!!  Here’s the DIRT..

As you know, Madonna has been trying to adopt 4-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James from Malawi.  The Malawian judge made her decision today and denied Madonna’s request for adoption.  The reason?  Because law dictates a would-be parent reside in the country 18 to 24 months ahead of time.  Even though there was so much public scrutiny, this rule was waived back in 2006 when she adopted David Bana, now 3, with her x-husband, Guy Ritchie.  The judge also stated that letting Madonna adopt Mercy may have ramifications on a law that protects the orphan children of Malawi:

“By removing the very safeguard that is supposed to protect our children, the courts by their pronouncements could actually facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals”

Another interesting twist that “backfired” on Madonna is the very fact that she has pumped so much money into the orphanage to help children there.  The judge says now because of Madonna’s help, Mercy has been placed into that same orphanage and will be safe and taken care of.

Madonna is planning an appeal to the superior court.
